Solve quadratic equations where algebraic simplification is needed initially
Example 1.

In this example, algebraic simplification is needed initially to get a quadratic equation. Cross multiply to get x squared - 5x = 6. Bring the 6 over to the left side to get x squared - 5x - 6 = 0 and factorise. After factorising, we will get (x - 6)(x + 1) = 0, which gives us: x = 6 or x = -1.
